Duncan Crary, Director of Communications

Duncan Crary is the director of communications for the Institute for Humanist Studies.

Crary is responsible for communicating the news and views of the Institute for Humanist Studies to members of the press, policymakers, educators and the public. Two principle ways Crary works with the media are by writing and editing press releases and letters to the editor.

Crary edits the Institute's weekly e-zine and hosts the Institute's monthly podcast, both titled Humanist Network News. He also works with other members of the Institute to develop new programs, including seminars and speaking engagements.

Before joining the Institute, Crary worked as a reporter for daily and weekly newspapers. He is a co-founder and editor of a literary arts magazine and the editor-at-large of a semiannual magazine of culture and history. His writing also appears in a variety of regional and literary magazines. He teaches courses on history, literature and creative writing.

Crary received his bachelor's degree in English from Union College in June 2000. He is earning a master's degree in liberal studies from the University at Albany.

The Institute for Humanist Studies (IHS) promotes humanism, a nonreligious philosophy based on reason and compassion. Reproduction of IHS content is subject to terms of use. Website problems can be reported here.
